I’ve ziplined before, once, at the Toro Verde in Puerto Rico. I did the El Monstro and holy shit, was that a beast to conquer. That was back in 2018, though.
When I came back from vacation, I looked and found this ziplining place near Austin. I’d been wanting to do it with friends, boyfriends, the lot – got some “YEAHS” but plans never made it out of the group text.
Well, I just went through a breakup and it’s near my birthday, so I decided that this was going to be the time to finally go, and I’d go by myself, dammit.
I booked a 9am, that had almost no one else in it (but my slot got filled up). I highly recommend the early morning, as it’s beautiful to watch the sun come up while you’re in the air.
There is plenty of parking on their grounds, with their reservation house staffed by incredibly nice folks. They checked me in seamlessly (do the waiver online before), and then we gathered to walk towards the water.
This is not an accessible place. You need to go down nearly 100 steps in the beginning, get onto a dock to get onto a boat, get crammed in with your party, and then ride the boat for about 10 minutes across the lake. I enjoyed this part, as it was cool with a breeze, but I also didn’t talk to anyone, ha.
There are a lot of highly elevated “hikes” + walking. I would not recommend this for anyone who has severe asthma or joint pain. I consider myself to be fairly in shape, because I do exercise regularly, but I found myself wanting to use my inhaler during some of the parts.
I think what’s fantastic about their set-up, though, is that the guides have you do two “bunny slopes” before you continue on the more thrilling lines. It gives people a chance to face their fears more easily and quickly. It is barely 2 seconds to zip across the first one, with the drop being maybe 10ft. This gives you the chance to conquer your initial fears and shaky legs, if you have ’em.
It’s a little expensive for most, but if you’re looking for a way to see Austin from a different perspective, I highly recommend it.
Mask Policy as of 09/2023 – none. No one is wearing masks indoors or outdoors.
